She was born May 20, 1924 in Altoona, a daughter of the late William J. and Elizabeth (Rice) Sullivan. On April 30, 1947, she married Robert H. Slee at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Altoona. He preceded her in death on March 28, 2015.
Surviving are her daughter, Patricia (David) Krajovic of Michigan; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeanne Hoagland of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Bailor; and eight siblings, William, Joseph, Cyril, Regis, Frances, Mary Margaret Hoover, Imelda and Esther.
Mrs. Slee was a 1942 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and a 1945 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Johnstown. In 1985, she retired as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital, Altoona. She was passionate about nursing and prided herself on providing loving, competent care and support to her patients.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Altoona.
Bernie loved nothing more than to spend time with her family. She loved taking walks and sitting on her porch with a steaming hot cup of coffee. If you were lucky, you could hear her beautiful soprano voice singing her favorite tunes as she cooked and worked in the kitchen. Bernie always wanted to be sure you were well fed when you visited her. The fondest memories of her will be of sitting around the kitchen table, enjoying her mac and cheese and good conversation. She was the glue that brought folks together.

Friends will be received from 4 to 6pm, Sunday, Oct. 23, 2022 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am, Monday, Oct. 24, 2022 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Altoona, with Rev. Nelson Javier as celebrant. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory be made to Fisher House, Pittsburgh, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
