Obituary for Dale Miller "Oakie" Beery

Dale Miller “Oakie” Beery, 84, of Bellwood, Pa., died on All Saints Sunday, Nov. 6, 2022 at his home, after a battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He was born Dec. 28, 1937 in Marion, Ohio, a son of the late Amos Miller and Lola (Shirk) Beery. On Oct. 4, 1959, he married the love of his life, Monta Jean (Seiter) at Trinity Lutheran Church, Marion, Ohio. She preceded him in death on Sept. 5, 2020.
Surviving are his three children, Rachelle C. (Bob) Tower of Tyrone, Pa., Roger M. (Michele) of Middletown, Pa. and Rhonda J. (Tobias) Nagle of Bellwood, Pa.; three grandchildren, Renee Anderson and Emily and Christian Nagle; three great grandchildren, Vivian, Caleb and Colton; a brother, Roger of Marion, Ohio; a sister, Janie Price in Tennessee; and a sister in law, Shirley Kulick of Delaware, Ohio. He was preceded in death by siblings, Norman, Darrell, Donald, Sue Postell and Marilyn VanDorn.
Oakie was a 1955 graduate of Harding High School, Marion, Ohio and served in the US Marine Corps Reserves for 8 years. In 1959, he began his 41year railroad career which included service with Erie Railroad-Ohio, Erie Lackawanna-Ohio, Conrail and Norfolk Southern-PA. On March 1, 2000, he retired as a supervisor/foreman at Norfolk Southern, Altoona, Pa.
He was a dedicated member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Altoona, Pa. A train enthusiast, he also enjoyed coin collecting and vegetable gardening. One of his greatest joys was attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Friends will be received from 11am to 1pm, Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Altoona, Pa. A funeral service will be held at 1pm Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Dr. Barry R. Folmar officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood, Pa.
The family suggests contributions in Dale’s memory be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Altoona, Pa.
