Obituary for Deborah L. Gerwert

Deborah L. Gerwert, 72, Altoona, died Thursday afternoon, February 2, 2023 at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Altoona. She was born April 26, 1950 in Pittsburg, Kansas, a daughter of the late James W. and Virginia A. (Kilduff) Gerwert.
She is survived by special sister-in-law, Sue Gerwert; a sister in law, Kathleen Gerwert; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, James B. and Daniel R. Gerwert.
Deborah was previously employed as a caregiver at Home Instead, and former vice president at J.G. Packing Company, Bellwood. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona.
An avid animal lover, she served as an advocate and volunteer for Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, Altoona. She loved all of her doggies, especially her baby dog, Buddy.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11am, Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc., Bellwood. A funeral service outside of Mass will be held at 11am at the funeral home with Rev. Father Michael Pleva officiating. Committal will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
The family suggests that contributions in Deb’s memory be made to Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, Altoona.
