Obituary for Dennis L. Hopkins

Dennis L. Hopkins, 81, Bellwood died early Tuesday morning, May 18, 2021 at UPMC Altoona.
He was born July 5, 1939 in Bellwood, son of the late Gerald F. and Bertha Mae (Everhart) Hopkins.
On May 19, 1962, he married Leota E. Claycomb in Winchester, Va.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Jeffery A. “Boomer” and wife, Lisa of Bellwood; a daughter, Chrystal A. Campbell of Bellwood; two grandsons, Corey Allen and Casey Adam and wife, Crystal; four great-grandchildren, Pamela Sue, Xaiver Allen, Azula Marie and Olivia Rose; and a brother, Burton F. of Hamburg, New York. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Campbell; a sister, Janice Mares and a brother, Gregory D. Scott.
Dennis was a 1957 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School where he played football and basketball and was known as “football king”. He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Vietnam Era. Dennis retired as an inspector at Big Yank Corp., Tyrone and also as a custodian at Bellwood-Antis School District.
He was a member of National Conference of Fireman & Oilers Service Employees International AFL-CIO CLC.
For many years, he coached the Fireman’s Little League Baseball team and Northside Red Devils football. He was an avid fan of all sports, and also enjoyed fishing and hunting.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family suggests contributions in Denny’s memory be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
