Obituary for Eugene R. "Gene" Harker

Eugene R. “Gene” Harker, 88, formerly of Bellwood died Friday morning April 3, 2020 at Graystone at Bellmeade. He was born July 9, 1931 in Duncansville, son of the late Cyril and Cecelia (Decker) Harker.
On January 15, 1955, he married Jean M. “Peewee” Campbell in Newry, and she preceded him in death on April 22, 2006.
Surviving are a son, Robert E. (Mary) of Fostoria; two daughters, Debra J. (Carl) Lechner of Bellwood and Jodi A. (Karl) Fritzman of McDonald; four granddaughters, Chelsea (Josh), Ashley (Lenny), Taylor (Andy) and Grace; and a great granddaughter, Brynlee. He was preceded in death by a sister, Connie Begley.
Gene was a 1949 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School. He was a US Army veteran serving from 1952-54 during the Korean Conflict, and was a proud recipient of a Commendation Ribbon with medal pendant. He retired as a courier at First Commonwealth Bank and was formerly employed at Marhoefer Bakery and also at Mid State Tool.
Gene was a member of Logan Valley Presbyterian Church, Bellwood where he served as deacon. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a member of Bavarian Aide Society, Golden Nuggets and Horseshoe Seniors. Gene’s greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of his immediate family. A public celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.

The family suggests that contributions in his memory be made to Bellwood-Antis Scholarship Fund c/o 400 Martin St. Bellwood, Pa. 16617, earmarked for the Eugene and Jean Harker Memorial Scholarship.
