Obituary for Frances "Nancy" Brinkel Veign (Martin)

Frances “Nancy” (Martin) Brinkel Veign, 83, a resident of The Winds at Mattern Orchard, Duncansville passed away Tuesday evening, December 6, 2022, after a four-year battle with cancer.
She was born October 11, 1939 in Buffalo, New York, the eldest of thirteen children of the late Francis H. and Eileen (Carney) Martin. She was twice married, first to Edward G. Brinkel and then to James Veign, both of whom preceded her in death.
Surviving are four children; Laura DiPasqua of Erie and her sons, Joseph (Jona) DiPasqua of Pittsburgh and Anthony (Aaron Damron) DiPasqua of Erie; Patricia (Perry) Rearick of Colorado Springs, Co., and their daughters, Katherine (Karl) Manz of Littleton, Co. and Sarah (Omar) Roy of Columbia, SC.; Michele (Terry) McGinnis, and their sons, Mason (Abigail) and Avery McGinnis, all of Altoona; and Edward J. (Dana) Brinkel of Altoona; a great grandson, Luke and an expected great granddaughter due in January; her step-children, Elizabeth Glick, Barbara Cox, Albert Veign, Patricia Lawson and Diane Veign-Irwin; and five siblings, Mary Eileen, Joseph (Mary), Michael, William (Kathleen) and Marie.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Brinkel; a stepson, James M. Veign; and seven siblings, Kevin, Maureen, Patrick, Daniel, Edward, James and John “Jackie”.
In 1957, Nancy graduated from Mount Mercy Academy Catholic High School in Buffalo, New York. She obtained her real estate and appraisal licenses and spent 41 years as a realtor, receiving numerous awards and accolades. She instructed real estate courses at Penn State-Altoona and served as president of Allegheny Highland Association of Realtors. In 2011, she retired from Coldwell Banker Town and Country Real Estate.
Nancy was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellwood, where she taught 6th grade CCD classes, as well as at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and many dear friends, and also enjoyed hosting her famous holiday gatherings at her home.
Nancy will be fondly remembered for her kind, gentle spirit. She had the ability to find humor during the most difficult of times and maintained it through her final days on this earth.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5pm, Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood, where a vigil for the deceased will also be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am, Monday, Dec. 12, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellwood, with the Rev. Jozef Kovacik as celebrant. Committal will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
