Obituary for G. Ronald "Senior" Wilson

G. Ronald “Senior” Wilson, 84, of Pinecroft, passed away late Friday evening, September 23, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born March 8,1938 in Antis Township, son of the late Thomas A. and Eileen (Ross) Wilson.
On Nov. 25, 1959, he married Judith Ann Mayhue at Olivet Baptist Church, Bellwood.
Surviving are his wife; a son, G. Ronald, II (Wendy) of Bellwood; two daughters, Shari K. (Joseph) Hughes of Martinsburg and Tina M. (Scott) Orolin of Altoona; ten grandchildren, Heather, Brittany, Tierney, Alan,
G. Ronald, III, Katie, Chelsea, Andrew, Jeremy and Josh; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth T. (Sharon) of Ocean City, Md. and Harold E. (Linda) of Antis Township; and a sister, E. Bonita DeSantis of Annandale, Va. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Kay A. Bushman and Joyce E. Hostler.
Ron was a 1956 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School. His continued education earned him a Bachelor of Science degree in English at Lock Haven University, a Master’s Degree in Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and his PhD in Curriculum at Penn State University. He retired as high school principal at Cameron County School District and was an associate professor at Penn State Altoona and University Park, and also director of education at Altoona Hospital.
Ron had a passion for working with and educating children. He was a founding member of Bellwood-Antis School District Foundation, a past president of Bellwood-Antis School Board, a member of Pennsylvania State Education Association, and a member of Phi Delta Kappa fraternity.
He was a member of Hillside Community Church, Bellwood, Jaffa Shrine, and a former president of American Cancer Society, Blair County.
Ron’s love of animals showed in his passion for rescuing and caring for them. He enjoyed coaching wrestling and little league football, and especially attending his granddaughters’ volleyball games. He also enjoyed gardening, birdwatching, vacationing, and travel to the shore. He loved unique foods and will be remembered as the “ultimate storyteller”.
His greatest joy came from spending time with his family and helping others in need of assistance.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm, Thurs. Sept. 29, 2022 and 10 to 11am, Fri.,Sept. 30, 2022 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday at the funeral home, with Pastor Randy Zitterbart officiating. Interment will be at Antis Cemetery, Antis Township.
The family suggests contributions in Ron’s memory be made to Central PA Humane Society,
Altoona, Pa.
