Obituary for Gerald Joseph "Jerry" Vipond Sr.
Gerald Joseph “Jerry” Vipond, Sr., 74, Lakemont, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, unexpectedly Friday morning October 9, 2020 at UPMC Altoona, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a blessed child of God, born April 20, 1946 in Lakemont to the late Alfred and Florence (Blair) Vipond.
On March 5, 1969, he married Susan F. Eckels at First United Church of Christ, Altoona, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 2, 2017.
Surviving are a son, Gerald Joseph, Jr. (Christine) of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; a daughter, Lois J. of Altoona; a granddaughter, Krysta Dawn Vipond; three brothers in law, Joseph, Richard (Margaret) and David (Linda) Eckels, all of Altoona; 14 nieces and nephews; an aunt, Ruth (Barry) Davis of Duncansville; and special friends, Daryl and Sue Benson. He was preceded in death by sisters, Lois Fagan and Donna Jean Pfahler.
He was a US Navy veteran serving during the Viet Nam Era. Gerald retired as a detail store room attendant at Penelec after 39 years of service. He attended Abundant Life Assembly of God, Altoona and led an active Christian lifestyle. He enjoyed golfing and making golf clubs for his friends.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm, Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 11am Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020 at the funeral home, Pastor Walter Smith officiating. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, Altoona.
