Obituary for Gregory D. "Scotty Dog" Scott

Gregory D. “Scotty Dog” Scott, 72, Duncansville died early Thursday morning April 2, 2020 at his home.
He was born February 3, 1948 in Altoona, son of the late Gerald F. and Bertha Mae (Everhart) Hopkins and was raised by his adopted parents, the late Edward R., Jr. and Rosella D. (Hopkins) Scott.
Surviving are two grandchildren, Jacob and Olivia ; two brothers, Burton and Dennis Hopkins both of Bellwood; a step brother, Todd Scott of Bellwood; an aunt, Jean Wilkenson; and friends, Craig and Lori Taylor and Tim Watt.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Mares; and step brother, Edward Gary Scott.
Greg was a US Navy veteran having served during the Vietnam Era. He served with the River Patrol Force, participating in 202 combat patrols and 31 hostile fire conflicts, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V”.
He retired as an electrician at Norfolk Southern Railroad, Altoona. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting and loved traveling to Canada to fish. Greg also enjoyed his beloved pets, Ditto III and Cleo.

A memorial service, with military honors, will be held at 10am Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood, Pastor Duane Coy officiating.

Contributions in Scotty Dog’s memory may be made to Wounded Warriors Project or Central PA Humane Society, Altoona, Pa.
