Obituary for Gretchen L Eckenrode (Davis)
Gretchen L. (Davis) Eckenrode, 54, Bellwood died early Wednesday morning September 9, 2020 at UPMC Altoona. She was born January 13, 1966 in Altoona, daughter of the late Francis C. and Margaret (Roland) Davis.
Surviving are her three sons, Justin W. (Laura Ebersole) Davis of Tipton, Brice F. (Barbie McCloskey) Davis of Tyrone, and A. Scout Eckenrode of Bellwood; two grandsons, Nicholas and Liam Davis; two sisters, Sue (John) Carruthers of Oak Island, NC and Monica F. (Ben Fetterman) Davis of Bellwood; and nieces, Nicole and Courtney Carruthers. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wade F. Davis.
She was employed as a direct care worker at Public Partnerships, LLC.
Gretchen was a deeply creative spirit who could turn anything into a beautiful work of art. She was best known for her beautiful wreaths and paper mache art. She enjoyed tending to her flower, herb, and vegetable gardens, collecting nature’s crystals, and could often be found visiting local antique shops, thrift stores, and yard sales.
Gretchen was at peace with nature in all its forms. She loved all creatures equally and was often called upon as a dog whisperer. From her honey bees to her beloved pigeon Sophia, who she nursed back to health along with countless other animals over the years, she also leaves behind her beloved pets; her cats, Tae, Gypsy, and PG; and her dogs, Nacoma and Bart.
Friends will be received from 11am to 1pm, Monday, Sept. 14, 2020 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral service outside of Mass will be held at 1pm Monday at the funeral home, by Rev. Jozef Kovacik. Committal will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
The family suggests that contributions in Gretchen’s memory be made to Helping Hands 1417 Pennsylvania Ave. Tyrone or Central PA Humane Society.
