Obituary for Janice Kay Holes (Thomas)

Janice “Kay” Holes, 74, Bellwood died early Sunday morning, January 17, 2021 at her home.
She was born August 25, 1946 in Bryn Mawr, daughter of the late Jess “Will” and Betty (Haller) Thomas.
Surviving are a son, Todd M. (Christy Johnson) of Bellwood; a daughter, Kimberly S. Nixon of Bellwood; four grandchildren, Joshua, Cadin and Westley Nixon and Izabella Holes; a brother, David Thomas of Altoona; two sisters, Carol Barefoot of Altoona and Cassandra Thomas of Denver, Co.; and two nieces and three nephews.
For 30 years, Kay was a teacher’s aide for special needs children at Altoona Area School District, serving as a strong advocate for children and a mentor to teachers, and teacher’s aides alike.
Kay was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg.
She enjoyed flower gardening, tending to her bird feeders, and was a Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State football fan. Kay found joy in giving to many charities. She loved her Bellwood neighbors and she greatly enjoyed attending gatherings with her cousins. She loved her grandchildren, nieces, nephews and girlfriends.
Friends will be received from 1 to 4pm, Friday, January 22, 2021 at First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg. A funeral service will be held at 4pm Friday at the church, with Pastor John Godissart officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.

The family suggests that contributions in Kay’s memory be made to First United Methodist Church, 801 Allegheny St. Hollidaysburg, Pa. 16648.
