Obituary for John A. Kost

John A. Kost, 91, of Bellwood, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at his home.
He was born November 13, 1930 in Howard, son of the late Wasco “Westley” and Bertha Margaret (Kozak) Kost. On July 18, 1964, he married Audrey Corinne Hogan at St. Matthews Catholic Church, Tyrone. She preceded him in death on Feb. 3, 2008.
Surviving are his son, Jason A. (Angela) Kost of Bellwood; two daughters, Gena Kost of Erie and Wendolyn Z. (Richard) Hazenstab of York Haven; two grandsons, John Forester and Nicholas Aloysius Kost; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Basil; and two sisters, Julia Marshall and Anna Closson.
John was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict from May 7, 1952 – April 22, 1954, at the rank of Corporal. He retired as a foreman in the Industrial Engineering Dept. at SKF Industries, Altoona, after more than 34 years of service. After his retirement, he enjoyed working at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood until the age of 80.
John was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellwood, for more than 50 years and a member of Monsignor O’Malley Council Knights of Columbus, Bellwood.
He volunteered over 1000 hours of service at BonSecours Hospital and the Surgical Center at UPMC Altoona. He was a blood donor, giving in excess of 50 gallons of his blood to the American Red Cross. John also volunteered at Blair County Conservation District.
He enjoyed treasure hunting with his metal detector and loved spending time in the woods. John was very proud of his grandsons and enjoyed attending their sporting events.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8pm, Friday, July 1, 2022 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood, where a vigil for the deceased will also be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am, Saturday, July 2, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellwood, the Rev. Jozef Kovacik as celebrant. Committal will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
