Obituary for Joyce A. Knowles (Forshey)
Joyce A. Knowles, 83, Pinecroft, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior early Saturday morning July 4, 2020 at her home.
She was born Nov. 30, 1936 in Altoona, daughter of the late Leonard L. and Anna M. (Zitsch) Forshey. On June 7, 1958, she married Kenneth O. Knowles at Pinecroft United Methodist Church, and he preceded her in death on June 14, 2011.
Surviving are her three children, Elaine K. Grove, Ellen G. (Randy) Smith and Keith D. (Lysa) Knowles all of Altoona; two grandsons, Kaleb and Kyle; two sisters, Janice H. Forshey of Pinecroft and Janetta R. Gardner of Bellwood; nieces and nephews; and her beloved puppy, Max.
Joyce was a 1954 graduate of Bellwood Antis High School. She retired as office manager at Mid-State Tool and Supply Co., Altoona after serving for 30 years. Her excellent work ethic earned her the respect and love of all her coworkers. Her greatest motivation was her faith, and her desire to serve others. A member of Pinecroft United Methodist Church, she served as a Sunday school teacher, pianist and church treasurer.
Joyce’s contributions to her community were endless. She volunteered as director of the Bellwood-Antis Food Share program, treasurer of Bellwood-Antis Council of Churches, and the Bellwood Hope Center “Soups On” program. She was also a member of the BA Community Picnic committee and Jaffa Widows Club. Joyce’s dedication to her community was recognized in 2017 when she earned the WISE Women of Blair County Community Service Volunteer Award.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4pm & 6 to 8pm, Tuesday July 7, 2020 and 10 to 11am Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 11am Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Peter Dittman officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
