Obituary for Kathleen L. Starner (Conrad)

Kathleen L. Starner, 101, of Bellmeade, a beloved mother, grandmother and aunt, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, March 30, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born December 19, 1921 in Bellwood, a daughter of the late Robert E. and Maynie Jane (Geist) Conrad.
In 1940 she met the love of her life, Joseph Dale Starner, and they were united in marriage December 31, 1941 in Winchester, Va. He preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 1994.
She is survived by her son, Ronald D., and his wife, Jan of Cranford, New Jersey; a grandson, Josh, and his wife, Alex; a niece, Luanne (Richie) Shoop; and great nieces, Colby Shoop and Morgan Kleiner, and their families; a sister in law, Shirley Conrad; a niece, Gail (Gerry) Michaud and their family; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Leon, Robert, Russell, Kenneth, Charles, W. Merrill, Thomas, Jean Rodland, Jane McCracken, Lois Taylor and Bernice McCoy.
She was a graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School and retired as a monitor at Sylvania Philips ECG in March 1983.
Kathleen was a woman of many interests and hobbies. She sang with the “Musical Notes” during World War II, and also in the Otterbein Church choir. She was a member of Sweet Adelines, and an active member of The Reserve Officers Association Ladies Club. Kathleen had a strong faith and was a member of First Church of Christ, Altoona. She enjoyed baking and especially spending time with her family. She was known for her patriotism, unwavering kindness, generosity and infectious smile.
Kathleen will be dearly missed by all who knew her, as she was a kind and loving person who touched the lives of so many. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8pm, Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 11am, Thursday, April 6, 2023 at First Church of Christ, Altoona, with Pastor John Collins officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
