Obituary for Richard F. Hawkins, Jr. MD

Richard F. Hawkins, Jr. M.D., 77, Antis Township died early Monday morning, April 5, 2021 at UPMC Altoona.
He was born January 25, 1944 in Lynchburg, Va. son of the late Richard F., Sr. and Margaret (Meigs) Hawkins.
On June 29, 1996, he married Marilyn B. (Boothe) Thompson in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife; six children, Richard F. (Susan) Hawkins, III of Richmond, Va., James (Kimberly) Hawkins of Paris, Va., Mary Ellen (Mark) Borinski of West Point, Va., Gary (Denise) Wobb of Bethel Park, Stacey (Jim) Krepps of Bellwood and Amy (Jason) Reed of Stuart, Fla.; thirteen grandchildren, Joshua, Nicholas and Amberly Hawkins, Kristyn Ginter, Vincent Wobb, Cody and Chelsea Krepps, Stephen Wobb, Nicole Maslak, Samantha and Amanda Cerny, and Matthew and Kaitlyn Madures; three great-grandchildren, Justin and Julia Maslak and Caleb Wobb; and a sister, Margaret Ann (Carl) Oosterman of Smith Mountain Lake, Va.
Richard was a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College, Va., and earned his Doctor of Medicine in Radiology degree at The Medical College of Virginia. From 1979 to 1995, Richard practiced medicine with Smyth County Radiology in Marion, Va. and worked at the Smyth County Community Hospital. He last worked as a physician at Altoona Hospital, and retired as a traveling physician.
Richard was an avid train collector and enjoyed fishing for trout. He was a diehard Washington Redskins football fan, a connoisseur of all sports knowledge and trivia, and a great admirer of the mountains of Southwest Virginia and Western Pennsylvania.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
