Obituary for Richard A. Showalter

Richard A. Showalter, 77, of Bellwood, passed away early Wednesday morning, May 18, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born January 8, 1945 in Woodbury Township, Williamsburg, a son of the late Ralph E. and Dorothy M. (Brenneman) Showalter. On July 25, 1969 at Fairview Church of the Brethren, Williamsburg, he married Jennie Pearl Barley, with whom he shared nearly 53 years of marriage.
Surviving are his beloved wife; a son, Randall (Denise) of Bellwood; two grandchildren, Caroline Lucille and Jack Randall Showalter. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard A., II.
Richard was a 1962 graduate of Central High School, Martinsburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1963 -66 during the Vietnam Era. On Dec. 22, 2006, he retired as a bus driver at Bellwood-Antis School District, after 26 years of service, and where he was known for driving the “flying deuce”.
He attended Logan’s Valley Baptist Church, Bellwood and was a member of Bellwood Beagle Club.
Rick served as an assistant junior high boys basketball coach for 11 years and volunteered as a Southside Vikings little league football coach and helped with the Bellwood Antis girls elementary basketball program. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, running beagles and was an avid turkey hunter and trout fisherman.

Friends will be received from 1 to 4pm, Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 4pm Sunday at the funeral home, with Chaplain Jerry W. McCuller officiating.
The family suggests that contributions in Rick’s memory be made to Logan’s Valley Baptist Church, Bellwood or Fairview Church of the Brethren, Williamsburg.
