Obituary for Robert S. Mathers

Robert S. Mathers, 88, Antis Township, died Tuesday afternoon May 5, 2020 at his home. He was born July 21, 1931 in Frankstown Township, son of the late Bryce L. and Mary C. (Reffner) Mathers. On Dec. 26, 1953, he married Lucinda Jean Meghan in Cumberland, Md. and she preceded him in death on May 11, 2007.
Surviving are his children, Jeffrey L. (Janice) of Altoona, Michele C. (James) Bollinger of Antis Township, and Terry L. (Cathy) of Tyrone; 10 grandchildren, Jessica (Craig) Cooley, Melissa Mathers, Robert A. “Buddy” (Emma) Mathers, Amanda Houston, Bryce Mathers, Zack (Jessica), Jacob and Mara Bollinger, and Meghan and Joe (Katt) Miller; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was the last of his immediate family and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary C.; and a son, Robert E. Mathers.
Robert was a US Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. In 1993, he retired as a hot end operator at PPG Industries, Tipton, after 27 years of service.
He was a member of Hillside Community Church, Bellwood and a lifetime member of the Bavarian Aid Society, Altoona. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, camping, and attending his grandchildren’s baseball games. Bob’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Robert's life will be held at 11am, Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Hillside Community Church, Bellwood. Friends will be received from 10am until the 11am time of service at the church. A graveside service with full military honors will follow at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.

Bob was a very giving person and the family suggests that contributions in his memory be made to a charity of individual choice.
