Obituary for Sara J. McFarland (Hildebrand)
Sara J. McFarland, 93 of Bellwood died Monday morning June 13, 2022 at Epworth Manor, Tyrone.
She was born July 23, 1928 in Tyrone, the youngest daughter of the late Dale and Florence (Haley) Hildebrand.
She was a 1947 graduate of Tyrone Area High School. On June 26, 1948, she married Walter L. McFarland of Grazierville, sharing 28 years of marriage until his death April 10, 1976.
Sara’s 46 year long working career involved employment at various places in and around the Tyrone area including The Pulp Room Restaurant, Dairy Lane Store and Bakery, Grief Brothers, Bellwood, and later retiring in 2008 from Big Yank Corporation. After her retirement she resided at Bell Mansion Apartments, Bellwood until her death.
She is survived by her two sons, Dr. William McFarland of Molene, Illinois and Tom (Angela) McFarland of Altoona; three grandchildren, Kelly (Mark) Reider, Jessie (Sage) Hanna, and Dale McFarland; four great-grandchildren, Madeline and Jacob Reider,and Emmelyn and Caleb Hanna; and a sister, Beryl Geddes.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Hildebrand.
Sara enjoyed quilting, gardening and cooking. Her family members enjoyed her strawberry shortcake with homemade biscuits, as well as her Christmas fruit salad.
She was a wonderful mother and her greatest joy was spending time with her two sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Over the years, she treated her pets Aries, Tara and Max as though they were also her children.
To honor Sara’s wishes, there will be no public viewing, visitation or funeral service.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona
