Obituary for Shirley Ruth Smith (Barr/McCloskey)
Shirley Ruth Smith, 91, a resident of Graystone Manor at Bellmeade, went to be with her Lord and Savior early Tuesday morning, March 9, 2021 at the manor.
She was born February 2, 1930 in Bellwood, daughter of the late William Barr and Margaret A. (Myers) McCloskey and step-father, Lee McCloskey. On December 30, 1948, she married Robert J. Smith in Cumberland, Md., and he preceded her in death on June 20, 1998.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis J. (Kathy) and Lynn E. (Bobbi) Smith, both of Antis Township; a daughter, Deborah A. Rutter of Logan Township; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her half- brother, Gerald McCloskey.
Shirley retired as secretary at Myers Elementary School, Bellwood-Antis School District after 42 years of service. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood. She served as a volunteer at the Altoona Hospital gift shop. Shirley enjoyed going on family beach trips and she loved her cats. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Graystone Manor for the excellent care they provided for Shirley.
Friends will be received from 11am to 1pm, Friday, March 12, 2021 at Jon C Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 1pm Friday at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
The family suggests that contributions in Shirley’s memory be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood.
