Obituary

Donald E. Wertz, 63, Bellwood died late Thursday morning Feb. 20, 2020 surrounded by his loving family at UPMC Altoona. He was born October 8, 1956 in Altoona, son of the late Teddy W. and Nancy J. (Snyder) Wertz. On July 24, 1989, he married Irene M. O’Shell in Winchester, Va.
Surviving are his wife; three children, Shad M. Mayhue of Altoona, Jill M. (Dave) Kephart and Lindsay C. Wertz both of Bellwood; four grandchildren, Alexis, Lynnette, Dryden and Jayde; a sister, Sherry L. Anderson of Bellwood; two nieces, Elissa and Dana; and a nephew, Bradley. He was preceded in death by a sister, Trudy L. Wertz.
Don was a 1974 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School and retired as a service technician at Peoples Natural Gas Company, Altoona. He attended Logan’s Valley Baptist Church, Bellwood.
He was a charter member of Bellwood Jaycees, a member of Bellwood UVA and Bellwood Fraternal Order of Eagles. He formerly served as secretary/treasurer of the Bellwood Clubmen Association where he was active with the annual children’s Christmas parties and Bellwood Halloween parade.
Don greeted everyone he met with a friendly handshake and he always offered thanks by saying grace before every meal.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8pm, Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood and from 10 to 11am Monday, Feb. 24, 2020 at Hillside Community Church, Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 11am Monday at the church, Pastor Ashley Shook officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in Don’s memory be made to Bellwood-Antis Public Library.

I was working at home town market on the night of the Halloween parade . This must have been sometime in the 90's . He came in the store and I mentioned I would miss the ginger bread at the fire hall.After it was all over he brought me 3 pieces into the store. What a sweet man.

We'll never find better neighbors! This is how we will remember him, happiest when out of doors gardening or just putzing around! You are loved and will be missed!
